About

Seat 6 is the steering seat. It's where you read the water, call the line, and keep five other people pointed the right way.

SEAT6 started there. Our founder, Trevor, had just moved back to steer and wanted to get better fast. The plan was simple: film the session, watch it back, fix what he saw. But there was no clean way to mount a camera at seat 6. Everything out there was a workaround, or tape and hope.

So he designed one.

That mount got noticed. Someone in the canoe had a different problem. Then someone else did. Weed catching on the rudder pin. A camera lost to a huli. Paddles piling up in the garage. Each one became a part, and each part had to earn its place on a real canoe before anyone else got one.

Sometimes the canoe teaches the lesson. One of our boats turned out to have a slightly smaller iako than the others, and the clamp that fit everywhere else didn't fit there. So the clamp changed. That's how SEAT6 works: real problems, real boats, and gear that gets better every time a paddler tells us what's wrong with it.

Every printed SEAT6 part is designed and made in California and tested on the water before it goes on sale.

Meet Miguel, shop supervisor

Every SEAT6 order is made under the watchful eye of Miguel, our shop dog. He handles morale, inspects the occasional box and naps through most of it. We do our best to keep him off the workbench, so if a stray white hair ever makes it into your package, that's his signature, not ours.

If something on your canoe bugs you, tell us. That's where the next part comes from.
